On the same day that the XF is announced as ‘Executive Car of the Year’ by BusinessCar, Jaguar has launched two new models that are set to join the award-winning line-up in the form of the SE Business and Sport editions.

In presenting the Award, Paul Barker, Editor of BusinessCar said: ‘Jaguar’s XF has proved its appeal to the business car market with appeal to both the heart and the head thanks to its stylish looks and good running costs. Jaguar has worked hard to improve the car’s attractiveness to corporate drivers with the excellent new 2.2-litre engine, and is making further improvements that will only enhance the XF’s chances of retaining this award – decided by the readers of BusinessCar – in 2013.’

Jeremy Hicks, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover UK, commented: ‘These are the only awards voted for entirely by the business car industry – it’s a fitting demonstration of the popularity of the XF, its desirability and engineering integrity that the readers of BusinessCar should vote for it to once again win its category. Through our relentless programme of design, technical and value enhancements, typified by the SE Business and Sport models announced today, we aim to continue this success.’

Paired with the recently announced 2.2-litre Diesel 163 PS output engine, the SE Business model adds satellite navigation complete with a seven inch touchscreen and HDD mapping. This is in addition to the standard specification which includes intelligent start stop, a 400W sound system with DAB digital radio, leather and suedecloth seats and bi-Xenon headlights.

The Sport model is based on the 2.2 Diesel 190 PS engine and adds the full aerodynamic pack debuted on the Diesel S. This includes a revised front bumper, a black grille element, side sill extensions, a subtle rear boot lid spoiler and a black rear valance to create an elegant yet imposing look.

Inside, the Sport features half leather suedecloth seats, bond grain trim and dove contrast stitch as well as electric driver and passenger adjustment. Piano black trim with ‘Sport’ decals on the centre console are joined by stainless steel foot pedals. Practical additions include a heated front windscreen and front seats, a front parking aid plus a reversing camera and 60/40 folding rear seats.

A new 163 PS version of the popular and highly efficient XF powered by a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine, is set to be launched aimed at delivering greater value than ever before.

Drawing on the strengths of the existing 190PS model, an example of which recently crossed the United States averaging 62.9 mpg, the new, lower output derivative of the 2.2-litre engine will mean the XF range now starts at £29,950 OTR. Despite the lower starting price the new model features an extensive range of standard equipment including suedecloth and leather seats, a touch screen centrally mounted display, electronic climate control and an advanced 8-speed gearbox complete with automatic Stop-Start.

The XF 2.2D 163 PS is capable of accelerating from a standstill to 62mph in 9.8 seconds before reaching a maximum speed of 130 mph. On the combined cycle it can achieve 52.3 mpg and it emits 149 g/km of CO2. Jaguar dealers are taking orders for the new car now ahead of the first deliveries taking place in March.

The XF continues to enjoy a strong following in the UK having won over 80 awards since it was launched in 2008. Since then it’s been subject to a relentless programme of engineering and aesthetic enhancements. The 12MY XF is the most efficient and best equipped iteration yet with diverse range encompassing the highly efficient new 163 PS 2.2-litre Diesel model, up to the performance-focussed XFR, equipped with a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine producing a mighty 510 PS.

The Jaguar XKR-S has been awarded the title of ’2011 Sports Car of the Year’

The Jaguar XKR-S has been awarded the title of  ’2011 Sports Car of the Year’ by the respected German motoring magazine, Auto Bild Sportscars, following a poll of more than 70,000 of its readers. The XKR-S – the most powerful production car Jaguar has built – competed in the ‘Production Sports Car Coupes’ category, where it took 14.3 per cent of all votes, ahead of the Mercedes C63 AMG and Audi RS5 in their home market.

The XKR-S Coupe was recently tested by Auto Bild on the famous Nürburgring Nordshleife, which it lapped in just 7-minutes 51-seconds; its 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine produces 550PS and 680Nm, enabling it to sprint to 60mph in just 4.2-seconds before going on to reach an electronically limited top speed of 186mph (300km/h). To ensure minimal lift and maximum stability at such high speeds the XKR-S has a bespoke aerodynamic pack.

Competing for the 10th ‘Auto Bild Sports Car of the Year’ awards were a total of 173 cars in 17 categories, including modified and low-volume cars. In its category the Jaguar XKR-S finished ahead of 14 respected competitors. The awards were presented on Friday 25th November at the Essen Motor Show, Germany.

“Winning the first prize in a segment dominated by premium German competitors makes us particularly proud“, said Mike Wright, Executive Director Jaguar Land Rover. “The vote for the XKR-S proves that Jaguar’s desire to build powerful but beautiful cars resonates extremely well with those who have a passion for sports and performance cars.”

The XKR-S has been developed at the Jaguar Test and Engineering Centre at the Nürburgring. It epitomises the attributes key to all Jaguar’s GT cars: explosive power, inspiring handling, relaxed comfort and discrete luxury.

The XKR-S Convertible was also recently revealed at the Los Angeles Auto show. It boasts the same performance credentials as the Coupe, including suspension and electronics changes designed to increase both agility and driver reward.

The XKR-S Convertible is expected to replicate the sales success of its Coupe sibling where the volume of customer orders has far exceeded original expectations in major markets around the world

Jaguar’s C-X16 production concept made its North American debut at the Los Angeles

Jaguar’s C-X16 production concept made its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 16th. Ahead of its appearance at the show the all-aluminium C-X16, finished in Neutron White, added a future-looking aspect to the contemporary LA evening skyline on East 6th Street Bridge having first prowled downtown on Mesquit and Matteo Streets.

Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, Jaguar Cars, said: “Jaguar has always had a sporting heart, and the C-X16 is the perfect embodiment of our vision for a true 21st century Jaguar sports car. It’s fast, it’s beautiful, and it also highlights our commitment to the development of sustainable powertrain technologies.

“As it’s an indication of how a Jaguar sports car may look in the future, we’re eager to gauge the reaction to the C-X16 here in the important North American market, and the Los Angeles Auto Show provides us with the perfect platform to do so”.

A stunning vision of Jaguar’s future intent in the sports car segment, the C-X16 features perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a prototype hybrid powertrain comprising a 380PS (280kW), 332lb ft (450Nm) supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, allied to an electric motor producing an additional 70kW and 235Nm (equivalent to 95PS and 173lb ft). Driving the rear wheels through an eight-speed transmission, this hybrid powertrain gives the lightweight C-X16 the potential to accelerate to 62mph in 4.4 seconds before going on to reach 186mph.

The C-X16′s Neutron White aluminium bodywork is wrapped as tightly as possible around its advanced mechanicals, its lithe stance highlighting its dynamic ability. The use of simple but purposeful lines allied to a low sweeping roof and tail give the C-X16 a muscular but sculptured look that can only be a Jaguar.

Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar Cars, said: “A Jaguar sports car should have clear visual movement in its design, and the C-X16 is the perfect demonstration of that goal. Each of its lines begins with a sense of purpose, and ends with a sense of clarity.

“It’s that approach that has given the C-X16 its purposeful stance, and nowhere has that been more in evidence than when I saw it here on the streets of LA. Look at the C-X16 and you want to drive it – and that’s just how a Jaguar sports car should make you feel.”

Jaguar Sporting Range – the XKR-S

Jaguar Owners Club

The pinnacle of the Jaguar sporting range - the XKR-S - is now joined by a convertible which offers the same enticing blend of abilities, while offering driver and passenger a heightened connection with their surroundings.

The XKR-S Convertible embodies all the characteristics that have always defined legendary Jaguar GTs - explosive performance, involving handling, relaxed comfort and discreet luxury - while taking Jaguar into a new performance echelon. The new XKR-S model line-up sits at the pinnacle of the XK range, which now consists of XK, XKR and XKR-S derivatives in coupe and convertible format.

Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar Global Brand Director, says the new XKR-S Convertible represents the pinnacle of performance and glamour in motoring: “There is nothing as liberating as life behind the wheel of an open-topped Jaguar and the new XKR-S Convertible takes the Jaguar GT experience to new heights.”

The building block for the car’s explosive performance is an uprated version of the 5.0-litre supercharged AJ-V8 engine, which produces 550PS (405kW) and 502lb/ft (680Nm) of torque. These figures represent a power increase of 8 percent and torque increase of 9 percent over the Jaguar XKR. Driving the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox with Active Differential, this propels the XKR-S Convertible to 60mph in 4.2 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds) and on to an electronically limited top speed of 186mph (300km/h).

Extensive Computational Fluid Dynamics, wind tunnel and track work has resulted in the aerodynamic design changes applied to the XKR-S Convertible. These perform an essential function in maintaining stability in an open-topped car capable of speeds as high as 186mph (300km/h).

“Taking the track-oriented ethos of the XKR-S Coupe and applying it to a convertible is very exciting. There is a real spirit and thrill to driving with the roof down and in a car capable of these speeds that is going to be exaggerated to create a very dramatic and special experience.”
Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar Cars.

The engineering integrity of the acclaimed AJ-V8 petrol engine, now in its third generation, meant that Jaguar’s engineers could derive the extra power and torque needed for the XKR-S. The advanced design of the quad-cam, all-aluminium AJ-V8 incorporates spray-guided direct injection and variable valve timing for great efficiency as well as prodigious power. The Roots-type twin-vortex supercharger nestling in the ‘V’ of the engine has twin intercoolers and is 20 percent more thermodynamically efficient than its predecessor.

With the XK model designed as a convertible from the outset, Jaguar’s engineers were able to apply the changes that created the XKR-S Coupe into the open-topped GT without compromising performance, agility or refinement.

With the convertible hood stowed away, the interior of the XKR-S will be subject to as many envious glances as the exterior, with both highlighting the car’s high performance intent.

XF WHAT CAR – BEST EXECUTIVE CAR 2011

The Jaguar XF was crowned ‘Best Executive Car’ for the fourth year running at the What Car? Awards, held in London on the 13th January 2011.

“We’re delighted the XF has won this prestigious What Car? Award for the fourth year in succession,” said Geoff Cousins, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars UK. “In terms of sales, 2010 was the best ever year ever for the XF. Sales of the model were up 25 per cent in 2010 versus 2009, and that’s the third consecutive year of growth. The XF has been a resounding success since it was launched in 2008, and it’s great to have that recognised by the media. We have sold more than 100,000 examples of the XF worldwide and it continues to attract new customers to the brand.”

What Car’s Editor in Chief Steve Fowler commented: “This is the fourth year running the XF has won our best executive car award, and this year it has had to work harder than ever to beat its rivals.”

“We love everything about the XF: it looks fantastic, drives brilliantly and makes real financial sense, too.”

This fourth What Car? ‘Best Executive Car’ accolade takes the Jaguar XF’s tally of international awards to more than 80 since its launch. It is probably the most crowned luxury car around the world.

Elsewhere in the Jaguar range, the introduction of the all-new XJ in 2010 has only built on the success of XF. It is a landmark, flagship executive car from the revitalised Jaguar brand. Already the XJ has received more than 20 international honours including ‘Luxury Car of the Year’ from Top Gear (UK), ‘Best Luxury Car’ from China’s Auto News, ‘Annual Limousine King’ from Quattroroute (Italy), Automobile Magazine’s ’2011 Design of the Year’ and ‘Best Executive Sedan’ at the Bloomberg Awards (US).
